PEI GOLF Prince Edward Island does not exactly fit the definition of a typical golf trail largely because the 224-km length of Canada’s smallest province serves as one entire trail. A closely aligned cluster of 16 courses is affiliated with the island’s provincial government, together with at least another 10 courses. Island tracks range from championship layouts to scenic, smaller courses for all skill levels. Given that people can drive the crescent-shaped island from tip to tip in 3.5 hours, there are golf courses around every corner. With praiseworthy courses such as the Links at Crowbush Cove, Dundarave, Brudenell and Eagles Glenn, PEI has been on the golf community’s radar screen for many years and is widely considered one of the top golf destinations in the country. A selection of great layouts was almost inevitable, given that architects had an enviable landscape from which to craft their designs: coastal dunes, ocean views, pastoral rolling hills, pristine forests and the island’s famous red soil. Other than golf, this little island with a relaxed atmosphere has a number of engaging attractions. Lobster and famous PEI mussels are featured in restaurants across the province. Deep-sea fishing, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding and charter sailing are widely available activities. Highly popular is the island’s 420-km Confederation Trail for biking and hiking. Defined by a bucolic countryside, quaint villages and stunning seascapes, it can be done either in part or in its entirety. For decades, PEI has been attracting people from around the globe who come to see the fictitious setting for the Anne of Green Gables books made famous by island author the late Lucy Maud Montgomery. www.golfpei.ca 26 | www.snowbirds.org Travel
