Food and drink Sesame seeds are what many people unconsciously consider an underdog food. We often think of them after the fact, as a source of crunch for salads or a garnish on broccoli, sushi or chicken wings. But sesame seeds are super healthy, high in copper, manganese, magnesium, calcium and iron. People suffering from rheumatoid arthritis will benefit from eating sesame seeds. The seeds are anti-inflammatory, reducing pain and swelling. The copper links elastin and collagen, thus providing our joints, bones and blood vessels withmore flexibility and strength. Magnesium in this seed contributes to a healthy respiratory and circulatory system. The magnesium helps to keep our airway from asthmatic attacks, all the while ameliorating hypertension. So, sesame seeds are hardly insignificant! Tahini is a super delicious Middle Eastern and Mediterranean paste made from ground sesame seeds. New Iranian research reveals that this sauce may seriously contribute to the decrease of cardiovascular disease in Type 2 diabetics. It is tossed in salads and is incorporated into hummus and other dips. Tahini is also slathered across wraps and is utilized as a sandwich-spread, dressing or sauce. Drizzling tahini over baked salmon, chicken or lamb is scrumptious! When toasted, sesame seeds have a lovely toasty flavour that complements big, fat white wines such as Chardonnay, or any white wines that have been barrel fermented and/or aged, such as Fumé Blanc.
