What else was revealed? 1. Canadian buyers led the overall share of international sales in the following Florida metro areas: a. Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater (32%) b. Cape Coral-Fort Myers (41%) c. North Port-Sarasota-Bradenton (38%) 2. Canadian buyers were more likely to make cash purchases (75% of buyers – the largest share of any country) 3. Most frequently, Canadian buyers purchased condos/co-ops (47%), followed by single-family homes (39%) 4. Fifty-eight per cent of Canadian purchases were intended as vacation homes (more than any other country). That’s a tough legacy to abandon or compromise, though. In the wake of political frictions between Ottawa and Washington, media in both countries jumped on the premise that Canadians would move into panic mode and sell off their share of homes. Aside from news outlets insisting that Canadians were selling en masse, there appears no evidence to date from the Florida realty industry of any such activity. It might show up as the time from listing a home or condo to closing can test one’s patience. But we’re not there yet.
