It turns out that a solid majority of us (75%) purchase travel insurance when we travel outside of Canada; another 19% report that they already have travel coverage through an existing benefits program. Many of us purchase insurance on a single-trip basis (44%), but an almost equal number opt for a policy that covers the multiple trips which we take throughout the year (43%). Something which we were particularly happy to note this year is that fully 74% of us read the policy which we’ve purchased before we travel. Let’s hope that we do the same for all contracts and documents which we have to sign! When we shop around for a policy, 65% of us say that we’re looking for one that offers the most comprehensive coverage possible – that’s a considerable jump from some of the surveys which we’ve done in the past. Perhaps unsurprisingly, given the current climate of economic uncertainty, 37% of us identify low rates as the second most important feature which we’re looking for when we buy a policy. The ability to offer emergency assistance and claims service was also identified as an important benefit (34%), as was ease of purchase (33%) and the reputation of the insurer (30%). As we’ve seen in years past, relatively few of us base our insurance purchase decision on the recommendations of friends and family (7%), advisors (4%) or travel agents (2%). CSANews | FALL 2025 | 35
