Food & Drink by Shari Darling For more information on wine and food, go to www.sharidarling.com I have never paid much attention to how much water I drink in a day. After undergoing shoulder surgery and experiencing the dramatic effects on my body due to dehydration, I now understand that paying attention and meeting my own personal water consumption requirement is vital to my well-being and health. I have discovered that two glasses of water after waking up in the morning helps activate internal organs. One glass of water 30 minutes before a meal helps digestion. Sipping a glass of water before taking a bath helps lower blood pressure, and one glass of water before going to bed helps to prevent a stroke or heart attack. Drinking water daily and regularly is an inexpensive way to moisturize your skin. Daily water consumption helps to reduce wrinkles, aids in helping you look less tired and can keep your skin looking smooth. It adds that youthful glow. Dehydration will dry out your skin. A lower volume of water flowing through your system can mean less circulation around the brain as cortisol levels increase. Under this condition, stress levels can potentially increase. Drinking water improves your activity and productivity by making you more alert. There are countless scientific studies and surveys that have been conducted to help us figure out the best drinking water for our health. It’s very difficult to assess what kinds and brands of waters are best for us. WATER 44 | www.snowbirds.org
